History

After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014 via the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014, the Indian government decided to establish a central university in the residual state to ensure access to higher education.

May 2018: Union Cabinet approved CUAP with a budget of ₹450 crore (US$53 million).
June 2018: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) was selected as the mentoring institution.
August 2018: The transit campus was inaugurated at the IT Business Incubation Centre, JNTU Anantapur.
Permanent campus: 491.3 acres of land allocated for infrastructure development.
August 2019: Officially established via the Central Universities (Amendment) Act, 2019.
